Panel discussion at Volta-X 2025
The Role of Industry in the Green Energy Supply of the Future
At Volta-X 2025 in Stuttgart, Pirmin Boch from IE2S joined experts from Socomec and Uniper to discuss one of the key questions of the energy transition: How can a secure and green energy supply for tomorrow be achieved – and what role does industry play in this transformation?
The video highlights the key thoughts and insights shared by our colleague Pirmin Boch during the panel discussion hosted by the magazine Erneuerbare Energien. Boch emphasized that we are currently witnessing a major wave of storage projects across various voltage levels. This development is positive for the energy transition, although it remains to be seen how many of these projects will ultimately be realized. At IE2S, this storage wave is driving an increasing number of inquiries, particularly in connection with transmission system operators and grid connections.
Regarding financing, Boch explained that project development companies belonging to green energy funds are increasingly looking to seize the opportunity to generate returns with battery storage projects in Germany. Additionally, financing storage systems directly by industrial companies is also a viable option. In the small-scale storage segment, Boch does not foresee significant growth, although he expects bidirectional charging to play an important role in the future.
Overall, Boch predicts an increase in flexibility within the energy sector as electricity becomes increasingly storable. This will fundamentally change the energy landscape and open up new opportunities for an efficient and green energy supply.

"In my view, the development is clearly heading towards greater flexibility in the energy sector. The current wave of storage projects has the potential to fundamentally transform the sector. Electricity is becoming storable – something we've never seen before on this scale in Germany."
