Orchestrated Charging of large Fleet of Vehicles

Development of a BEV pooling system for orchestrated charging

IES2 is developing a pooling system for an OEM to control large vehicle fleets in line with network and market requirements. We are developing the backend systems for the aggregation and disaggregation of the vehicles. The technical approach enables real-time control and can be used independently of a smart meter gateway.

Initial Situation

Challenges for grid integration of a large fleet of vehicles can only be overcome with coordinated controlled charging

Need for a technical solution for real-time control of charging operations with the use of the OEM's existing back-end solutions

Flexibilities are to be marketed directly on the wholesale markets

Our Solution

Development of a technical solution as a data streaming platform for a real-time based control of charging processes of a large fleet of vehicles (>100 thousand BEVs), compliant with national legal and regulatory requirements

Establishment of the necessary processes and interfaces to connect an energy trader and the involved TSO

Preparation for the realization of the electricity trading processes for the marketing of flexibilities in the intraday process

Added Value Achieved

Development of a pooling system as a platform for real-time-based control of charging operations to monetize flexibilities in vehicles on wholesale markets

Establishment of a marketing process with an energy trader

Preparation for the use of the fleet of vehicles for marketing in the intraday process and control reserve process

„We want the charging process to be as simple and convenient as possible for our customers. Thanks to intelligent charging, they benefit not only from CO2-optimised charging but also from particularly favourable prices. We are convinced that this option can accelerate the decision in favour of an electric car. The simulation with our partners TransnetBW and IE2S is therefore a valuable opportunity for us to verify technical feasibility.“
